Today, is Baby's first day post-op. She is in stable condition. Her stats are consistently in the 80's. She had an Echo-cardiogram today and her left ventricle is functioning well. In my very basic, non-medical understanding, baby's left ventricle needs to get used to the higher pressure that it is needed for it to pump blood to her body (it currently pumps to her lungs.) Well, the LV is doing much better than the doctors anticipated. They are VERY PLEASED! YEAH! If she keeps doing this well, her ventricle switching surgery could be in just 2-3 weeks.
NiNi's chest is still swollen, as expected. If the swelling goes down, they hope to close her chest on Friday. Her incision is straight down her chest, a keyhole shape, approximately 5" long.
NiNi's coloring is much better now too. She is much pinker, even in her nail beds. Even under sedation, when she heard Bonnie's voice she opened her eyes and turned that direction. Too sweet! Until her chest is closed, though, Bonnie has to limit her visits and can't hold her. They need to be careful these first few days post-op while the chest is still open. Once it's closed, though, someone will get to stay with NiNi 24-7. Bonnie says she misses holding NiNi since that is what she and her mom did almost the entire time in China. (Baby could oxygenate better when upright.)
Bonnie thanks everyone for their continued prayers and support. It clearly is working! I posted another post earlier today. If you haven't read that one yet, be sure to scroll down and see the new picture....Thanks for visiting..Gina

Oh!!!! So glad for the updates!!!! Praying a ton for you guys over here!
ReplyDeleteSue, another TGA mom, shared your blog with me. We just had surgery for our son adopted from China with TGA (Home 1/23, Surgery 2/23). Our son had pulmonary stenosis already (why Nina is having the banding done) and a large VSD and ASD, so they were able to complete his surgery using the Naikadoh procedure. He was in the hospital from 2/23 until 3/11. He is doing great now home and we are so thankful for medical treatments available here in the States.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to introduce myself. We will be thinking of you and praying for Nina as she recovers in the hospital!

ReplyDeleteBonnie, I haven't commented much but have been praying alot for you and your daughter. What a miracle and joy she is! Praying she bounces back beautifully and that she will be back in your arms soon! Thanks for the updates, they mean alot to us. We are in N.Ca if you need anything...please ask, about two hours from Sac. Even a break or hug or anything just email me. Holding you both close and lifting up the prayers! Enjoy being a new mom, NiNi is precious!
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I am so thrilled to hear how well NiNi is doing. I can't even begin to imagine how terrifying all of this has been for you. I know how scary it is for me when Peyton has minor medical issues, but to start your motherhood experience this way, Wow! what an initiation! Now, you can be confident that you will be able to handle whatever comes at you, because you have truly been thoroughly tested. And in my opinion, you've passed the test with flying colors. What a Mom! NiNi is a lucky girl to have such a strong, capable mom.
