18 months!

My sweet girl is 18 months old today!! :-)

I spoke with the Early Intervention therapists who've been working with NiNi x6 months; their assessment of NiNi's developmental levels differs hugely from the MIND Institute's. EI feels NiNi is on par or slightly ahead of her age group for language, especially receptive language. She engages in imaginative play, like pretending to call my Mom on the cell phone; she also engages in "cooperative play" at daycare, like playing in the play kitchen with the 3-4 y/o or rolling trucks with them on the mat. All of those skills are usually a 3-4 y/o skill, not an 18 month old skill! :-) She also has a 20-23 word vocabulary, knows 6 signs, 2 colors,& 2 animals with their sounds. I am inclined to believe the EI therapists because they see her every week, and NiNi cooperates with them MOST of the time. heehee Her fine motor skills are excellent, she can do simple puzzles and pick up tiny pieces of glitter or beads. She still is learning to feed herself, but that takes time to learn that coordination. So as of Jan. 1st, NiNi will only have physical therapy! When EI did her 6 month eval, she "graduated" from child development and occupational therapy!! :-) I am thrilled. Daycare has had an incredible influence on NiNi; she wants to be a "big girl" like the 3 & 4 y/o, so she tries foods, moves around more, imitates sounds and words...it is awesome!! :-)
