CNY at Sac State

NiNi had a fabulous new year celebration today at Sac State! The Sacramento Chinese Assn. puts on quite an event to ring in the new year...this year is the year of the rabbit, the most peaceful of the zodiac animals...here is hoping that this is indeed a quiet and peaceful year for all of us. :-)

We went to the celebration and met up with another family from FCC. BinBin is now 3, and she and NiNi had so much fun! There were crafts and games for the kiddos, plus face painting. In the auditorium there were all types of performances: readings, dancing, etc. NiNi and I watched a few of them before she got restless.

My girl wore her new silk outfit, and her squeaky shoes. BinBin wore a silk dress, and they looked so sweet! They both got their faces painted; BinBin went first, and NiNi suddenly decided she wanted that also! She sat SO still for it!! ;-) NiNi did NOT want to ride in the stroller- she walked almost the entire time, holding onto me or the stroller. She showed such animation while we wandered the displays. She was waving, talking, FLIRTING(!!), smiling with all the chinese people. It is still bittersweet to watch, but it reaffirms my commitment to keep her connected to her birth culture. BinBin attends a 1/2 mandarin, 1/2 english preschool, and I think next year I will enroll NiNi.

It was a very nice day; warm and sunny outside, and full of excitement and celebration inside! :-)
